The hugely popular Battle Royale game Fortnite continues to grow. At the GDC 2019 this week announced that the title reached 250 million registered players, compared to 200 million in December.
Regarding the players who actually played the game, Epic showed that Fortnite set a new record 10.8 million record. This is slightly higher than in February, when 10.7 million people registered simultaneously during the Marshmello in-game concert.
Although Fortnite is one of the most popular games in recent history, it can still be on a metric behind Minecraft. The sandbox game by Microsoft reportedly has 91 million players per month, more than Fortnites 78.3 million. However, these numbers have not been updated for some time. So it remains to be seen if anything has changed.
Commenting on Fortnite’s great success, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney told Engadget, “It’s a real game, it’s a shooter, it’s global, it’s the first shooter with a huge female population, and someone estimated it to be about 35 percent is not it 50? – but it’s never been there for such a thing because that’s because players come together in a social experience. ”
In other Fortnite news releases, Epic announced at the GDC that a $ 100 million developer fund was created thanks to the success of Fortnite. In addition, Epic announced that Quantic Dream’s exclusive PlayStation titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human are coming to the Epic Games Store this year.
